The Horror, The Horror
Currently based in Asheville, North Carolina, The Horror, The Horror is a collaborative musical project started by Shannon McCleary and includes Br'er members Shaina Kapeluck and Benjamin Schurr. In the Winter of 2010 Benjamin returned from Philadelphia to Asheville only to find Shannon and Shaina snowed in, delirious and unemployed, ready to record. Shannon had been composing the songs found on Muscle Memory on electric and acoustic guitar over the past 3 years in various incarnations of The Horror, The Horror, but finally found suitable collaborative forces in Shaina's additional voice and violins and Benjamin's lush production and musical arrangements. The result is a collection of dark, wistful, bed-room pop that draws on themes of escaping the confines of gender and confronting the apparitions of the past. Varying tonally from 60'psychedelia to early goth to balkan-influenced waltz to the Postcard Records era twee pop, Muscle Memory transcends definition, carrying aloft the torch of female-fronted post-punk passed down from the Riot Grrl movement.
